Beijing Arbitration Commission
The Beijing Arbitration Commission ('BAC') is a non-profit organization that was founded on September 28, 1995. The objects of BAC are to provide impartial and efficient arbitration services and to promote commercial arbitration in China.
Though it has only a short history, BAC has achieved great development and has become a leading arbitration institution in China. BAC has a set of practical training programs for arbitrators, which helps to guarantee the quality of arbitral awards. Modern management system, well-educated working staff and advanced facilities are also the foundation of its growth.
Functions / Activities / Services
BAC provides settlement by arbitration and mediation of contractual disputes and other disputes related to property rights, especially in sales, finance, engineering and construction. It maintains a panel of international commercial arbitrators which includes several senior arbitrators from FIDIC.
BAC also provides a venue for international commercial arbitration with videoconference facilities and simultaneous translation.
BAC holds several international meetings including seminars on international dispute resolution in the fields of engineering and construction, and symposiums on the protection of international investments.
Under the arbitration law of the PRC, mediation or conciliation is combined with arbitration. Parties, however, can request the appointment of arbitrators that have not been involved with the mediation/conciliation.
