In 1996 it merged with the Mediators Institute of New Zealand to become AMINZ. Functions / Activities / Services

AMINZ provides education and training in arbitration, mediation and adjudication. Its academic syllabus is taught at Massey University New Zealand. AMINZ recognises the Diploma in Dispute Resolution taught at the University of Waikato New Zealand and the Graduate Certificate in International Arbitration which is taught at the National University of Singapore as meeting the admission requirements for entry to AMINZ as an Associate.

Associates ("AAMINZ") are recognised as holding a professional qualification in dispute resolution. Associate membership is a pre-requisite for entry to fellowship.

The senior qualification of Fellow is offered by AMINZ in examination in either arbitration or mediation. The qualification FAMINZ(Arb) has equivalent standing to Fellows (FCIArb) of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK) through the reciprocal arrangements between the two institutions. Under these arrangements, Fellows of the Chartered Institute are eligible for admission to AMINZ as a Fellow Arbitrator, and vice-versa.

All members of AMINZ are bound by the Institute's code of ethics and disciplinary procedures.

AMINZ maintains panel and lists of experienced practitioners on its website and it provides a nomination and appointment service for the public. The Institute is also an appointing authority for a range of standard contracts and statutes. A designated trust account is available for the purpose of holding parties' deposits for the duration of an arbitration.

AMINZ has Hearing Rooms located in central Wellington where a full range of services and facilities are available for hire for arbitration hearings, mediation, meetings and trainings sessions.
